The new year started off with a bit of bad news. My 50 year old niece was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy on New Year's Eve day, and next week she will begin six months of chemo therapy and then in July radiation therapy. The cancer is of a fast growing variety, therefore the doctors are being aggressive with the treatment.
So, in a weekend's time, I was able to knit an afghan and two hats for her (it is most likely she will lose her shoulder length hair). I gathered a few different types of activity books, hard candies and other supplies I thought she might need and presented her with a personalized chemo bag.
She was very touched by the gesture; she said she has been overwhelmed with support and love by so many people that she can't imagine not getting well. I am certain she will be fine, but if you are reading this post, please add her to your prayers.
