For some, happiness is playing cards, but not so for me. Playing cards was never my thing. I can remember watching my brother and sister playing cards as a kid and just not being at interested in the activity. Well, my soon-to-be 97 year old mother likes to play cards.
It might not seem like much of an act of kindness, but it was.....
We have been in the house for two and a half days because of snow and ice. My mom usually goes to a senior social group where she is amongst those whom enjoy the activity, and who enjoy trying to beat my mom at her favorite card game, "King in the Corner." Around 11:00 this morning, I went into her room and said, "If you want to play a game of cards, I will play with you." She smiled and immediately got her cards and shuffler. We played for an hour and surprisingly I won three rounds. While we were playing, my sister phoned to ask my mom what she was doing on this snowy day. When my mom told her we were playing cards, my sister chuckled and said, "My sister is playing cards, no wonder it is snowing!" Everyone knows it is my least favorite activity.
In all honesty, I enjoyed it today, and when we were done, my mom said, "That was nice."
Tomorrow Betsy will have links on her site to many RAK that people have done this week. You might want to stop by her blog and check them out, they are very inspirational and motivating to do nice things for others. Imagine how incredibly peaceful our world would be if we were all just a bit kinder to one another. It has to start somewhere, so as the song goes,"Let it begin with me!"
Your lovely 97 year old mother . . . bless her.
ReplyDeleteso nice that you played cards with her Rose (and made it snow . . lol)
And even though you are not that keen on cards I can understand how you felt, doing it because you love your mother.
I am not that good at cards and never played "King in the corner" ~ I must look it up.
Loved the song, "Let there be peace on Earth".
Wouldn't it be great if there was ~ guess we shall have to wait until Jesus returns to actually see universal peace which will be wonderful. . . . . :)
I do not enjoy cards either, in fact I dislike playing cards quite intensely so I appreciate how you felt. Good for you and I'm sure your mother appreciated your effort as well.

Awesome, Rose. I completely understand how much love that took. Kind of like me playing Angry Birds with the boys. ;) You are an angel. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI love that song...it's perfect and so poignant! I'm not a card player either so I appreciate the kindness it took to spend an hour playing with your mom. Looks like she thoroughly enjoyed it, too! Thanks so much for joining in on my adventure.....I really appreciate your posts and inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThat was a very sweet thing you did for your mother. And I'm sure she loved every minute of it. It's the simple things, sometimes, that make our mothers the happiest. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful Mom you have. And how sweet of you to do something with her that is not your favourite. I bet she was surprised!
